Kaitlyn P., LCSWA
Having to endure life’s storms without a sounding board can be a challenging, uncomfortable place to be in. You may feel like you have nowhere to turn to express how you feel without feeling misunderstood or receiving unsolicited advice about what you’re experiencing. Or you may feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and nobody has your back. A small, but mighty, first step in this journey is accepting that you deserve to have the support that you need designed to fit where you currently are. It takes courage to recognize when you need help taking care of you, especially when you take care of everything and everybody else.
I recognize that sometimes when we are deep in the trenches of whatever we’re facing, it can be even more difficult to face the world and find our grounding. I offer a compassionate, yet knowledgeable approach to facing life’s challenges. Together, we can create a safe space for facing challenges, breakthroughs, healing and growth. Along with that, I will practice advocacy and give you tools that help you challenge existing worldly systems that could be hindering your access to healing.
As a therapist, my role is to support you and facilitate the process of self-empowerment by working collaboratively with you to set goals, challenge and restructure negative thought patterns, practice positive affirmations that model healthy self esteem, practice mindfulness and lots of self-care. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, setting healthy boundaries, self-esteem, making time for you, and balancing life, I got you. Don’t worry, we’ll have some fun along the way too!
My Experience
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate. I obtained my Bachelors of Psychology at UNC Greensboro. I also earned my Master’s of Social Work at North Carolina A&T. I have experience working with individuals of vulnerable communities— those experiencing homelessness, children, and those with developmental/intellectual disabilities. I have worked with a variety of ages, from young children toadolescents and adults. I am passionate about helping Black women and other people with marginalized identities.
Along with using CBT, mindfulness and somatic techniques, and solution-focused goal setting, I use intersectional theoretical frameworks to ensure I am approaching therapy with cultural awareness. My ideal client looks like someone who is motivated for change, open-minded, and willing to self-reflect.
When I’m not in Therapist Mode, Im…
Spending time with friends and family, binge watching reality tv, trying new restaurants in Charlotte or cooking a new recipe I found online, browsing in Tj Maxx/HomeGoods, or playing video games (Sims 4 is my favorite!).
